A Tribute to the Life of RAJA

Picture
The American Mastiff Our Beloved  First Mascot
Saint Francis Pet Care’s beloved mascot Raja, the American Mastiff, transitioned to the Rainbow Bridge May 8th, 2021. On May 30th he would have celebrated his 93rd birthday.

Many communities in our region had the privilege to meet Raja in person or on TV and in many newspapers. He served the schools through teaching pet ettiequte to children. He brought love and caring to our nursing home facilities. At our Dog Fun Festivals he lead dog guests into agility activities. He especially liked the tunnel and musical hula hoops. He danced with Maryanne Hoffman, his human companion and trainer, to The Ohio State and the Cleveland Browns football themes for dog lover crowds. He graced many parades throughout the Penn-Ohio area, representing our organization. He was a magnet to especially, children and people of all ages. Most people felt he was the biggest and most adorable dog they had ever seen. A gentle giant he was.
He loved swimming in lakes and pools and dancing the ChaCha with Maryanne.  All animals loved Raja. He was known to play with wild turkeys and a special cardinal from when it was a fleshing. He was true to the characteristics of a true Saint Francis dog - kind, compassionate, loving, gentle, respectful and smart. He put a smile on many faces. At Christmas he dressed in his Santa suit and delivered presents to children from his backpack.
His favorite treats were blueberry frozen yogurt, freeze dried liver and all natural dog flavored jerky. He enjoyed going to dog events and many times won dog contests, as the biggest dog or most unusual dog.He loved to play hide and seek and performed many dog tricks and agility. He had a special dog carriage to pull others.
For Halloween Raja and Maryanne were many characters together: Raja was a spider, Maryanne was his web, Raja was superman's dog with a superman doll on his back and Maryanne was Wonder Woman, Raja was a whale and Maryanne was a mermaid, Raja was Santa Dog and Maryanne was an elf or Mrs. Claus. He wore bells and lit up lights for many festivities. He will be immensely missed. Thank you and God bless you, Raja.

 VICTORY ANNOUNCEMENT!
PACT Act "Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture,": \ Senate Unanimously Passed Bill Making Animal Cruelty a Federal Crime
A victory for all of us animal advocates, when the Senate unanimously passed a bill that makes animal cruelty a federal felony. The PACT Act — which stands for Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture— was approved. The president and CEO of the Humane Society recently releaseda statement, hailing the
bill's passage. PACT will now revise a previous law passed in 2010.
Under the PACT Act, a person can be prosecuted for crushing burning, drowning, suffocating

or impaling animals or sexually exploiting them. Those convicted would face federal felony charges, fines and up to seven years in prison.
Thank you
Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania the bill’s author,

Evidence indicates that the unconsiable persons who harm animals often become people abusers. This is the one of the main purpose of our St Francis Cadets program to promote compassion toward our pets and educate the youth to "remain humane" with all animals. We are currently working on a pamphlet to educate our youth on the proper and humane care of all pets. We need donations to publish and release our :"Caring for a Pet" interactive coloring book and pamphlets for FREE distribution. We are currently promoting our annual "Caring for a Pet" art contest 2024.

Over 10 years Raja, a Therapy Dog and Service Dog, instructed children and others on pet etiquette and dogs agility at our events.
He loved to dance in full regalia with his owner and trainer Maryanne Hoffman to Ohio State Buckeye's

Prayer for Animals in Need
  1. Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals, especially for animals who are suffering: for animals that are over-worked, under-fed and  cruelly treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death.
We entreat for them all your mercy and pity and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the Merciful.
